This drawing was done exclusively on site at a 19th century steel mill once owned by J.D. Rockefeller. It was scaled down in the 1980’s, but many of the old workers still live in the neighborhood. One day a man drove across the big empty parking lot where I was working to tell me he like my drawing but hated my subject. When he worked there he’d have hold up a red hot shovel to shield himself from the even hotter heat from the furnace.
